The compulsory obligatory BLOG (Weblog)

(22 August 2002 +) Its been a while ... but Mathematics Rules!  Find out why.   Does On the Road make any sense? As Dersh would say ... you be the George   ... and that's the path to law.   Well, its time to promote education. For that  we turn to enhanced federally sanctioned public domain ERIC Digests.

(09 August 2002 +) FREEDOM !/? What is freedom? A Platonic Ideal? Freedom from opression? Freedom from want? Freedom from Pain? Freedom from intrusion? These are all "freedom-from"s.  There's also the "freedom-to"s. Freedom to think? Freedom to assemble? Freedom to mispel Fredom? Friedom, Fridom? Freedam? Fredame? Free for all? Such an attractive idea.  Free Lunch? Is there such a thing as free-lunch? Where is it served? Why? Free spirits? Free souls? Free sex? Free enterprise? Free is good? Free is bad? Free Fries with a hamburger? Is it worth its return on investment?
(what is that gadget ... it's seems like the latest  "in thing" - Addico Milano Special Edition Cool & Cold Water Cooler),

(04 August 2002 +)  Just found out the " 'Mediterranean diet' as a means of preventing atherosclerotic vascular disease is gaining increasing acceptance. As early as in the late 1950s, it was found that the inhabitants of Greece and Southern Italy had a very low incidence of coronary artery disease and that, among other components, their diets were very rich in oleic acid, the main constituent of the olive oil, making up about 29% of their daily caloric intake. It is now clear that, in addition to its relatively minor effects on cholesterol levels, oleic acid directly interferes with the inflammatory response characterising early atherogenesis due to the endothelial expression of adhesion molecules for circulating monocytes. "(see Olive Oil )  WOW! ... Also, adolescent patients participating in controlled tests for treatment of migrane experienced a similar reduction in frequency, duration, and severity of headaches during treatment with fish oil and during treatment with olive oil. Quite incredible! Look here for details.   Ftrain has a really funny story about the googlebot robot

(01 August 2002) §23.2 Reports "Friend or Foe" show reveals some ugly truths about human nature. Many press the Foe button .... I guess they've never heard of the Prisoner's Dilemma ... Oh well. Added the top tools2  directory for increased convenience in finding some of the tools ... more to be added later.

(28 July 2002) The fortunate nine of  QUECREEK, Pa made it! B.Z. rescue team!, Working the coal mines is no picnic. Being a trapped miner is no fun, but they had their all American with with them, and made it.  What now?  Added another health category ( spasms ) -- and revisiting redevelopment of asteroid watching via asteroidwatch.net

(27 July 2002) Longer intervals between logs now.  More about unappreciated greatness.  I am not completely sure of the final verdict. Continuing to read  TITAN , on the Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. -- I continue to be amazed at the co-evolution of free markets and highly controlled markets. On another tangent there, I didn't have a clear understanding of the extent of JD's significant involvement with higher education. I clearly was aware of Rockeffeler's namesake university, but not of his invovlement with Spelman Seminary, Vassar, and surely not of his foundational role with the University of Chicago.

A first attributed to JD was the use of a professional chemist, Herman Frasch, to conduct systematic research. Of this period Alfred North Whithead said "The greatest invention of the nineteenth century was the invention of the method of invention".

Decided to implement Friends of Sequoias today. Preparations were in place earlier. Also added the Directors Redux directory, and learned about AssignmentLog (a great tool for teachers and students - as the name implies, allows keeping track of school assignments ...  bound to save everyone lots of time).

The nine men are alive, those in the flooded coal mine,  at least now, at/near somerset pennsylvania, the air shaft makes all the difference. We certainly hope that they all make it out alive.

(20 July 2002) Hot Noon ... Gaps are getting longer ...added SequoiaPundit and sequalsklogw (the magic password phrase ... If you know what s=k log W is, you're in. If you don't, roll the dice again).    Giant Sequoia Trees  by Ginger Wadsworth is great for kids and kids at heart.   Talking about Giants and Sequoias,  Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. ,  is a recommended read.

(11 July 2002) Time to look at interesting cultures  -- what is this Rich Site Summary (RSS) stuff and why is the state of UTAH so hot to tell everyone about it?
(07 July 2002) Post Independence Day... added a current health issue directory. The LLPOH (LILIPOH) Principle stands for LIFE LIBERTY and the PURSUIT OF HAPINESS.  In this case pursuits include yet another new topic directory. It all experimental but global technology progression is something to explore. Search engine rankings and focus keep fluctuating. It would appear blogs are getting priority. Its not clear of priority blogs are getting priority emphasis, and if there's some kind of hierarchy. We'll just have to see. In the meanwhile the future of the universe hangs at stake; perhaps is just a cooked steak.  Back to the episurrealism. De Chirico would have loved it, but what about Magritte and Breton?

(04 July 2002 ++++) INDEPENDENCE DAY. Finally saw Minority Report. Spielberg Cruise Cruise the Future, and what did they find? Well you'll have to check it out yourself. OR, maybe precog it. You might be able to see the story without seeing the movie or see the movie without seeing the story.  But if you are a  mere mortal . go see the movie, then check perdition, and Men In Black II.  OK ... so today the star shines on Modern Business Technology. Why? Why Not? In other activities .. set up the a mirror at up23  to provide a backup bloglog .. But in reality starting a more refined formal blogger at llpoh.blogspot.com (whenever it really starts working)

(03 July 2002 PM) Snippets from the Congressional Digest .. Measures Passed: 21 June 2002 Support of American Eagle Silver Bullion Program Act: Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs was discharged from further consideration of S. 2594, to authorize the Secretary of the Treasury to purchase silver on the open market when the silver stockpile is depleted, to be used to mint coins, and the bill was then passed.

Hearings: June 26, Full Committee, to hold hearings on the nomination of Mark Sullivan, of Maryland, to be United States Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; and the nomination of Paul William Speltz, of Texas, to be United States Director of the Asian Development Bank, with the rank of Ambassador, 2:30 p.m., SD-419.

From random neuronal vibrations: communication networks to social networks, from nothing to XBOX ... all in technology trek . Also time shift the reintroduction of some rather old but useful directories including  after the chads  and world literature laureates which links to some of the finest literature and some ohter odd places. (are mispellings allowed/aloud?)

(02 July 2002 PM++) What does the ++ really mean? PageSpinning? BlogLetting? Blog is such a fun word... time for a musical instrument directory (with odd instruments like didgeridoo khaen sheng and gongs).  The Dow downed today ... is there any relationship between the words Dow and Down? I would have preferred the word UP for the stock market index. UP is uplifiting. OK enough of the Joycian Stream of Consciousness (or Joycean Stream, or Jocular Stream, Whatever, as long as its in English - why is it that one runs into Italian, or French, or German, or Spanish, or maybe Russian? I can't believe the Den Beste Phenomena with the USS Constelation). especially since we really don't know what Consciousness means.

(30 June 2002 PM+) Whats making the news today?  Relatively peaceful. ... morals and ethics are in vogue, though WORLDCOM and XEROX fade into memory.  The paper that brings us all the news that's fit to print  has the following lead stories: "Powell Urges Vigilance on Fourth of July By REUTERS  http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/national/news-attack-powell-warning.html  Filed at 2:16 p.m. ET WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Sunday Americans should be vigilant for possible attacks around the Fourth of July holiday but that people should still try to enjoy Independence Day celebrations --   A Dispute Over Wireless Networks By PETER MEYERShttp://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/01/technology/01WIFI.html)  Time Warner Cable sent some of its New York City cable-modem subscribers letters last week warning that operating wireless networks and inviting others to freely share them violated their subscription agreements. -- Canapés and Investment Tips Both Served to Well-Heeled By ALEX KUCZYNSKI and ANDREW ROSS SORKIN http://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/01/business/01SOCI.html) From Greenwich to East Hampton, on private helicopter pools ferrying investment bankers into town from Long Island's South Fork and in the steam room of Park Avenue's Racquet Club, the cognoscenti can readily recognize one familiar facet of the tale of Martha Stewart and her friend, the now-former biotechnology chief executive Samuel D. Waksal: they were entwined in a Manhattan grapevine where the exchange of corporate information is a burgeoning social custom, not necessarily a crime."  --- Are things returning to normal? What would Charlie Brown say?  well ... ode to handyman part 1 located at  the handyman secrets hideaway.  At the same time a diet and nutrition might be of use in another brain center. Well sometime later we'll have to return to Umberto Eco ... he/semiotics might hold the ultimate key. Updated the Frame Relay Page ... it now includes stuff like Cisco Voice Over Frame Relay, ATM and IP by Steve McQuerry and Converged Network Architectures: Delivering Voice and Data Over IP, ATM, and Frame Relay by Oliver C. Ibe  (will cisco ever surge again?)

(29 June 2002 PM) Does Congress Rule Everything?  How would we know? One small step is to look at the Congressional Record at thomas.loc.gov   For a snapshot ... one could look at the Congressional Record Digest there ... or the star brought congressional record digest sampler. The sampler will eventually become a more extensive CRD Star Directory. Perhaps we'll be able to discern some trends?      Talking about trends, there's a trend to growing allergies and alergens in these here United States, and perhaps the rest of the world.

(26 June 2002) What is Deafferentation? Look at Gravis Acerbus ... so The Full Tilt Rantzone Report is in on Minority Report.   The new Tom Cruise vehicle doesn't live up to its full potential  ... read only after seeing the movie .. else its a spoiler. Also ... the marathon myth is busted ...

(22 June 2002) waiting to hear the report on Minority Report ... added bloglog  as the unfettered starblog.  sad day at the ballpark -  Darryl Kile, St. Louis Cardinals Pitcher, Dies at 33. Several items to revisit - Tuxedo Park and a new science fiction collection - title forgotten  ... I'll have to figure it out ... heard it on NPR on Friday PM .. MIT's blogdex is the 'official' bloganalyst of the blogculture. is everything going to be blogprefixed?

(20 June 2002 ++) Elements of Nature  (really of elemental insight), and The Greatest Human Minds and Spirits take precedence, even though the Lord of the Rings and Thor are more fun, but those must be saved for a later tiem

(15 June 2002 High Noon ++) Mat Damon was pretty decent in the Bourne Identity ... pretty fast paced. CHARLES W. HEDRICK   -- great gateway for classics ... did I mention democracy and greek epigraphy. And what about the runner, questions remain ...was it all an Aristophanian satire?or the olympics; Perseus though is a great resouce and stoa looks like it might get there. Started  reference links to   GREAT MINDS , and Six Sigma!   Thor certainly had his way with hammers. Cane to hammer - what's the message?

(15 June 2002 High Noon) Time to set a ceiling on DVD and CD prices ... The TripleNine DVD List   ... think about, human narrative creativity en-plastic, it might even become the store of value ... move aside silver. or gold.  Added the GREAT MINDS SERIES, and of course a knowledge vault for world nations.  Moving wright/right/rite along ... Schöpenhauer: "Our task is not so much to see what no one yet has seen but to think what nobody yet has thought about that which everybody sees."  from Stephanie Pace Marshall's introduction to the play A NEW MIND FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM [Written  Robert Kiely and Anthony DiSanto]

(14 June 2002 PM) What does the MARRIAGE PENALTY PARADOX have to do with the Belmont Stakes? What do the THE DATA DEALERS Lexis and Westlaw and  Shepard’s Citations have to do with the SCOVILLE SCALE FOR PEPPER HEAT and  THE GUY IN THE FEZ? Or Scott McCloud  and Spiderman or Egyptian hieroglyphics? You could find out all of that and more at the gtexts blog. Then again, it might forever remain a mystery known only to a select few. Your choice.  Later I might speculate on Prilosec and Nexium ... What a story!  --in the meanwhile  .. added: Acetazolamide Acute coronary syndrome Angina pectoris Angiography Angioplasty Angiotensin Antiplatelet Therapy and Arrhythmia Control to Tumour necrosis Ventricular assist Ventricular dysfunction Visceral obesity and  Weight Management

(9 June 2002 PM + 1) Added  From Algorithms to kurt vonnegut and simon bucher jones. , the Andromeda Universe. The Orion Nebula has the final list inluding the luminaries such as Asimov, Brin, Heinlein, Lucas, Pournelle, Stasheff, Tolkein, Turtledove, Vinge, and Zelazny. Of those Asimov, Brin, and Vernor Vinge are a must read!!!!

(9 June 2002 PM) War Emblem lost to Sarava - W.E. is no Secretariat.  Sarava ridden by ?? Hard to tell.  Sarava  The Longest shot yet (70-1).  Trifecta paid 25 grand.  Yet all the talk is about war emblem ... go figure.  The correct spelling for MDO appears to be Medaglia d'Oro.  Added medical update experiment. (original typo read experimet - does this mean meeting your exper?) Also  .. revised the revision ... fantastic fantasy and science fiction from kappa directory.  No  not from phi beta kappa but from a bertram chandler to edwin a abbott with notables like edgar rice burroughs, douglas adams, carl sagan, c j cherryh, arthur c clarke, ben bova, and bruce sterling in between. Many more like Asimov come later.

(8 June 2002 PM) Watching CSPAN. Wondering about the difference between mystakes, mistakes and misteaks. Nothing really but listening to Robert Caro talking about Johnson and Rural Electrification.  Now everyone can play Halo on the XBOX [Xbox Starter Pack  is a great deal,  the main shooter game to get is HALO, set on a ring shaped planet-- really -- Just got a set  -- M and B are already melting the covenant --  there's also the allied artificial intelligence;  also entertaining is Spider-Man: The Movie for Xbox by Activision , Star Wars Obi-Wan by Lucas Arts.  Elder Scrolls: Morrowind by Bethesda is definitely worth checking].  CSPAN has  NELL IRVIN PAINTER suggesting drafts, square brackets, citations, notes to onesself ...interesting dicussion about quotes. enuf bout quotes ... Belmont Stakes, a million dollar purse Puzzlement? Preakness? Belmont ... straining at the leash at a mile and a half - thinking about the back stretch.  Reminds me of surreal literature. War Emblem could lead - the pressure might come from medallio d'oro, is there a chance for the triple crown? What about the Jockey? Proud Citizien? can they make a strong run when they get to the stretch? Pressure Pressure Pressure.  Now to the preview on tech tv - they're talking about Kingdom Hearts   and Super Mario Sunshine by Nintendo. wait a minute ... black and white commercial clip for Ronzoni set to martial music ... whats going on here.  Marching Pasta? pasta for victory?  thirsty cowboys? the story of michael dell ...titans of tech on techtv. Looked at a few more interesting books including The Domain Name Handbook; High Stakes and Strategies in Cyberspace and China Pop : How Soap Operas, Tabloids and Bestsellers Are Transforming a Culture   which has a fascinating discussion of the new mandarins, soap operas, and commercialization in a huge country poised on the potential for great advances.  Will China become Novo America?

The Secret Handshake : Mastering the Politics of the Business Inner Circle is sine quo non if you're interested in  climbing the corporate ladder. Expromo extimus! Latin is fascinating  .. its real easy to make up heavy phrases

(7 June 2002 PM) Its Friday ... the laptop crashed on start for the first time. Decided to  check and clean topdir, its an old experiment conducted at the begining of the e-boom now e-bust ... maybe there's no e-bust but things have changed.  That's not real specific ... MARS isISis the main destination.  Lots of frozen water under the surface. Time to realize there's a new west out there.  Got to get past the current logictraps of the 14th century.  Might not be too obvious but the  horse race is definitely on. We sort of know the participants but not ready to accept it yet.

(June 6, 2002 - PM) Tonight's starting point is pulling it all together.  part of it is the economics. Dow's down 172. What does this mean? 43 gave a speach about a new Homeland Security Department. We all hope it works. It needs to. We're in trouble if it doesn't. In seperate activities, dropped zeaxlink. David Riccardo had a system worked out, many many years ago.  Where are you David when we need you? Added  Top masters  Jack of all tradesters ... and Spiffy Spinny Masters to the movie directors access lists.

(June 5, 2002 - PM) President Gerald Ford  in washingtonpost.com "Curing, Not Cloning" argues for "continued research into the promise of nuclear transfer research" ... WOW.  The former prez argues against the Brownback-Landrieu bill and its House counterpart, H.R. 2505, that intends to criminalize regenerative therapies. Quite amazing for 38. Kudos .. Kudos ...  And I never heard about nuclear transfer research in the stem cell discussions. Neat.  Today's reference ... the sports directory.

(June 4, 2002 - PM) Second evening. Can this be kept up? Forget the headlines today. Whose at fault? I guess we all are ... lack of imagination. Friedman commented a while back, its not the lack of imagination about bad things. Steven King and Tom Clancy can come up with a bunch of horrors. Its really about lack of imagination about positive things we can do. Like a national research program for fuel cells and energy independence. What about a Decleration of Independence from foreign fuels. Next item .. new experimental directory. Even has links to zeaxanthin topics. Author to check into Umberto Eco (new book Baudolino).

(June 3, 2002 - PM) OK ... its time to jump into blogging head first. If that's possible.  Part of the agenda is to make the blog available serendipitiously(is this a real word) available across multiple venues. Why? Well as Umberto said in a recent interview. Because it feels right. So some of that is for experimenting.  We'll see how it works out. Right now it looks like the economy is taking a dive.  Ran across an interesting topic regarding anti-obesity drugs that came out of an attempt to cure Lou Gherig's disease (see AXOKINE, REGENERON PHARMACEUTICALS, and OBESITY - The Serendipity Factor: for comments) Another interesting topic is Francis Fukuyama's Posthuman Future .  Where are we headed? Today's experiment is to create an E-Z access directory for a variety of medical and health topics (technical systematics 1).  What about spelling? speling? sp? Its bound to happen, the spelling errors ... so apologies in advance. BTW this blog is made the old fashioned way ... not using any fancy blog software.  -- oops i am noticing that the search routines don't always yield on target information  ... well that's the nature of serendipity.  you look for A and you find W.  But then, that starts you thinking and free associating. And as Sierberling said to the Vulcan rubber god, the rest is history.  Cancer updates here.

By the way ... all the stuff on this and related sites is for general information only.  It is not meant as advice or guidance for treatment  ... only a personal professional or physician can offer personal advice.  Reading and thinking, though are useful skills, and more information and reflection is of great overall benefit.  So read and find out all you can about any topic you're interested in ... methinks its useful. But you have 2 decide 4 yourself.

Before the advent of time ... or at least blogtime ... there was the thought of food and health before harvarian Circulation ... coffee?, tea?, or me?, may be that was a forgetable line for the stews? Health before wealth  Health or wealth?
