according to wiki article, Aristoxenus, of Tarentum (4th century BC) was a Greek peripatetic philosopher, and writer on music and rhythm. He was taught first by his father Spintharus, a pupil of Socrates, and later by the Pythagoreans, Lamprus of Erythrae and Xenophilus, from whom he learned the theory of music. [more]

according to Wiki ... The Ford Mustang is a popular compact car originally based on the Ford Falcon. The first production Ford Mustang, a white convertible with black interior, rolled off the assembly line on March 9, 1964 and was later introduced to the North American public as a "1964 1/2" model both at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964 and via all three American television networks on April 19 that year by the Ford Motor Company. It was the most successful product launch in automotive history, setting off near-pandemonium at Ford dealers across the continent.

Neuroeconomics is not Neuro-linguistic programming Neuroeconomics combines neuroscience, economics, and psychology to study how we make choices, while Neuro-linguistic programming originally concerned with empirical study of, and modeling of, human performance and excellence, with the goal of creating transferable skill sets ... has grown in many directions since its beginnings in modeling successful psychotherapists and has found applications in most areas involving human communications, such as education and learning, persuasion, negotiation, sales, leadership, team-building, etc., as well as decision-making, creative processes, health, medicine, and athletic performance. Minarchism? What is that? according to essential facts Minarchism, sometimes clumsily called minimal statism, is the view of civics that government should be as small as possible. However, they often disagree on just how small that is. Supporters usually argue that anarchism is naive and goes too far towards simplicity, while libertarianism is often too allowing of vested interests, and that what they call minarchy continues traditions of classical liberal philosophy in their original form. Radical minarchists usually agree that government should be restricted to its "minimal" or "night-watchman" state functions of government (courts, police, prisons, defence forces). Some other minarchists include in the role of government the management of essential common infrastructure (roads, money); some, by what is sometimes reproached to them as a slippery slope, include quite a lot in such essential infrastructure (schools, hospitals, social security). ...Ayn Rand is viewd by some as one who'se set some Minarchist perspectives and vision ... But witht the minimalist apporach, maybe it would be hard to tell. Ayn's an enjoyable read though. [more]

Konzultant, in SciScoop reminds us of the The Principle of Biogenesis
In the Oxford Dictionary of Biology [Oxford University Press, 2000] we find: "biogenesis The principle that a living organism can only arise from other living organisms similar to itself (i.e. that like gives rise to like) and can never originate from nonliving material." In the Science and Technology Encyclopedia [University of Chicago Press, 1999] on the same subject we read: "Biological principle maintaining that all living organisms derive from parent(s) generally similar to themselves. This long-held principle was originally established in opposition to the idea of SPONTANEOUS GENERATION of life. On the whole, it still holds good, despite variations in individuals caused by mutations, hybridization, and other genetic effects." ... these thoughts are useful to keep in mind. [more]

T1 includes pointers to Notch proteins, Carbonic anhydrase and other interesting topics. Did you know that ..."Carbonic anhydrase (CA) is a seemingly ubiquitous enzyme, of profound physiological importance, which plays essential roles in respiration, acid-base homeostasis, bone resorption, calcification, photosynthesis, several biosynthetic pathways and a variety of processes involving ion, gas and fluid transfer"? or that Notch Receptors have a role in Neurodevelopment and Neurodegeneration? [... this is what's asked ... Can molecular mechanisms involved in neural development help us to understand, prevent and perhaps reverse the course of brain ageing and neurodegenerative disorders? Brain development and function require complex cellular and molecular processes controlled by a number of different signaling mechanisms. One such signaling mechanism, the Notch pathway, has been recognized as an important player in the regulation of cellfate decisions during early neural development. However, the action of this evolutionary conserved and widely used cell-cell interaction mechanism is not confined to the developing nervous system. In addition, recent studies have shown that elucidating the mechanism of Notch signaling and its role in the brain is important for our understanding of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and cerebral arteriopathy CADASIL.]

on Athanasius ... not a very common topic of discussion, but there appears the scholarly pursuits ... according to Wiki ... Athanasius of Alexandria was a Christian bishop of Alexandria in the fourth century. He is revered as a saint and a Doctor of the Church by both the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. ... Born: 298 Died: May 2, 373 Feast Day: January 18 ... In about 319, when Athanasius was a deacon, a presbyter named Arius began teaching that there was a time before God the Father begat Jesus Christ when the latter did not exist. Athanasius responded that the Father's begetting of the Son, or uttering of the Word, was an eternal relationship between them, not an event that took place within time. Thus began Catholic Christianity's fight against the heresy of Arianism. Athanasius fought consistently against Arianism all his life. In 328, he succeeded Alexander as bishop of Alexandria. As a result of rises and falls in Arianism's influence, he was banished from Alexandria only to be later restored on at least five separate occasions, perhaps as many as seven. This gave rise to the expression "Athanasius contra mundo" or "Athanasius against the world".
Athanasius is also the first person to identify the same 27 books of the New Testament that are in use today; up until his Easter letter, various similar lists were in use. However, his list was the one that was eventually ratified by a series of synods and came to be universally recognized as the New Testament canon.
He also wrote a biography of Anthony the Great that later served as an inspiration to Christian monastics in both the East and the West. The Athanasian Creed is traditionally ascribed to him.

What's Romantic? the corebib is here ... Wiki for example talks about "Romantic love is a form of love that is often regarded as different from simply sexual love, or lust. Romantic love generally means both an emotional and sexual love, as opposed to Platonic love. There is more emphasis on the emotions than on the bodily pleasures and, as far as physical intimacy is involved, less emphasis on the intimate parts.
Western society has historically emphasized romantic love far more than other cultures in which arranged marriages are the rule. However, the globalization of Western culture has spread Western ideas about love and romance.
Romantic love is the idealization of another person, and of a relationship with that person. Other ideas of love have been advanced by several philosophers and have been popular in different cultures."

Is Comedy Dead? ... you'll have to check The Death of Comedy by Erich Segal ... who "traces the evolution of the classical form from its early origins in a misogynistic quip by the sixth-century b.c. Susarion, through countless weddings and happy endings, to the exasperated monosyllables of Samuel Beckett. With fitting wit, profound erudition lightly worn, and instructive examples from the mildly amusing to the uproarious, his book fully illustrates comedy's glorious life cycle from its first breath to its death in the Theater of the Absurd. An exploration of various landmarks in the history of a genre that flourished almost unchanged for two millennia, The Death of Comedy revisits the obscenities and raucous twists of Aristophanes, the neighborly pleasantries of Menander, the tomfoolery and farce of Plautus. Segal shows how the ribaldry of foiled adultery, a staple of Roman comedy, reappears in force on the stages of Restoration England. And he gives us a closer look at the schadenfreude--delight in someone else's misfortune--that marks Machiavelli's and Marlowe's works. At every turn in Segal's analysis--from Shakespeare to Molière to Shaw--another facet of the comic art emerges, until finally, he argues, "the head conquers and the heart dies": Letting the intellect take the lead, Cocteau, Ionesco, and Beckett smother comedy as we know it"

Mobile phones may not be banned on planes for much longer so reads a story in the Economist ... According to the E "CONTRARY to popular belief, mobile phones do not pose a safety threat to airliners. On an average transatlantic flight, several phones are usually left switched on by accident, and the avionics systems on modern aircraft are hardened against radio interference. No, the use of phones on planes is banned because they disrupt mobile networks on the ground. An airliner with 500 phones on board, whizzing across a city, can befuddle a mobile network as the phones busily hop from one base-station to the next." PICOCELLS will come to the rescue ... Campaign Advertising is in! Packaging the Presidency: A History and Criticism of Presidential Campaign Advertising by Kathleen Hall Jamieson is one of the more popular texts ... according to whom "Political advertising is now the major means by which candidates for the presidency communicate their messages to voters. As a conduit of this advertising, television attracts both more candidate dollars and more audience attention than radio or print. Unsurprisingly, the spot ad is the most used and the most viewed of all available forms of advertising. By 1980 the half-hour broadcast speech -- the norm in 1952 -- had been replaced by the 60-second spot. ... Ads enable candidates to build name recognition, frame the questions they view as central to the election, expose their temperaments, talents, and agendas for the future in a favorable light, and attack what they perceive as their opponent's fatal flaws. In part because more voters attend to spot ads than to network news and in part because reporters are fixated with who's winning and losing instead of what the candidates are proposing, some scholars believe that ads provide the electorate with more information than network news. Still, ads more often successfully reinforce. existing dispositions than create new ones." [more]
